When the big corporations get out of control then they can create problems for the end consumers. For maximizing their profits, businesses can go to any length and they even don’t feel shy of violating consumers’ rights. Therefore, governments all around the world often need to regulate businesses and especially giant corporations so that consumers’ rights are protected.
For protecting consumers’ rights in the UK, the departments of Trading Standards are created. Previously, the departments existed as Weights and Measures Departments because their primary function was to maintain the integrity of commercial weighing and measuring by routine testing of equipment and goods. With time more consumer-centric legislation was enforced and hence the original Weights and Measures Departments were renamed as Trading Standards Departments with extended responsibilities. Now these departments enforce a wide range of other legislation: environmental health, health and safety, licensing and so on in addition to consumers laws. These departments also investigate commercial organizations that trade outside the law or in unethical ways.
The departments also have an interactive website for facilitation of the consumers besides physical offices across the UK. If any of the consumers have any query or want to file a complaint against any commercial entity then he/she can readily do it via both its website and offices. Anyone can connect with the consumer support team of the departments via any of the following methods.
- Via Phone
- Via Twitter
- Via Department’s Offices
