The office of gas and electricity markets commonly abbreviated as Ofgem came into existence back in the year 2000 when Office of Electricity Regulation and Office of Gas Supply were merged together to create a common government regulator for electricity and downstream natural gas. Its primary duty is to protect the interests of consumers, where possible by creating competition.
The main objective of this organization is to protect existing or future consumers ‘interests in relation to gas conveyed through pipes and electricity conveyed through distribution or transmission systems. Ofgem is also responsible to make market assessment promote fair play amongst competitors and deter companies from the abuse of market power. However, knowing all of this if you ever have complaints against OfGem, you don’t require to frantically search on google, down below are a list of things you can do to register your ofgem complaints.
OfGem complaints

  1. Lodging a complaint from the ofgem website: First go to the Ofgem site, and then go to the make a complaint section, from there on you’ll receive a series of instructions on how you can lodge your ofgem complaints. Say if you want to complain in writing about your supplier there are template complaints letter formats you can use to lodge your complaint.
  2. Lodging a complaint via consumer helpline number: You can call the Citizens advice consumer helpline 0808 223 1133 – Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. Ofgem doesn’t have a direct role in setting disputes between individual consumers and energy suppliers (you have to keep that thing in mind). Hence, you’d require the help of an energy ombudsman, who’ll settle the dispute. Who is an energy ombudsman? An energy ombudsman is a free, independent and impartial service they can get the suppliers to apologize, rectify the problem and even in some cases make a financial reward.
  3. Lodging a complaint through email: If you have a complaint regarding energy price, and if your complaint has not been resolved to your satisfaction you may as well contact Ofgem so that they can follow up the issue. You can do so by: Email- consumeraffairs@ofgem.gov.uk. Telephone: 020 7901 7295

If you use these methods, certainly the concerned authorities will get in touch with you and resolve your problem accordingly. ofgem complaints doesn’t take much time to register all you need to do is give as much as information as you can.
And send it to feedback@ofgem.gov.uk

Under the Alternative Dispute Resolution for Consumer Disputes Regulations 2015, Ofgem is the Competent Authority responsible for approving ADR entities in the energy sector. Hence rest assured, if you correctly follow the instructions you can lodge your OfGem complaints pretty easily without much hassle. However, you must keep in mind there’s a waiting period for each complaint to be acknowledged and then further processed hence you must have some patience, although you can always refer your complaint to citizens advice consumers and they can take the issue up for you.
