Cafcass is the short form for ‘The Children and Family Court Advisory and Support Service’ and it is a UK’s public body that concerns itself with the welfare of children and families that are involved in family courts. The public body was established in 2001 with the aim of protecting the rights of vulnerable children and families that are involved in public and private family law proceedings. The body was erected under the provisions of the Criminal Justice and Court Services Act 2000 and is directly accountable to the UK’s Parliament through the Ministry of Justice.
